Can CBN Help You Sleep Better?

Waking up in the middle of the night can ruin a good night’s rest. A recent study looked at whether cannabinol (CBN) could help people stay asleep.

How the Study Worked

Researchers studied 293 adults (ages 18–55) who said their sleep quality was “poor” or “very poor.” For seven nights, they took one of the following:

  • A placebo (no active ingredient)

  • 20 mg CBN

  • 20 mg CBN + 10 mg CBD

  • 20 mg CBN + 20 mg CBD

  • 20 mg CBN + 100 mg CBD

The researchers wanted to see if sleep quality improved, and also looked at how quickly people fell asleep, how often they woke up, and how tired they felt during the day.

What They Found

The group taking 20 mg CBN:

  • Woke up fewer times during the night.

  • Had less overall sleep disturbance.

  • Did not fall asleep faster or feel more rested during the day.

The Bottom Line

Taking 20 mg of CBN before bed may help you wake up less during the night and improve overall sleep disturbance—without making you feel groggy the next day.
