Myrcene

Myrcene is an earthy, musky terpene that is often the most abundant terpene in cannabis and is also found in hops, mango, and thyme.

It is a monoterpene, one of the smaller and more volatile terpene types, and it evaporates readily, which is why fresh plant material smells stronger than stored material. In many hemp and cannabis chemovars, myrcene makes up the largest share of the terpene fraction. Terpene panels list it by weight alongside limonene, pinene, and caryophyllene.

Myrcene is frequently highlighted in marketing for cannabinoid products, and popular claims connect it to relaxation or to changing how cannabinoids are absorbed, but these ideas rest on preclinical or anecdotal sources and clinical synergy has not been shown. It is not a cannabinoid and does not act on cannabinoid receptors in any established way. Its presence on a pet product's terpene list is informational.
