Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC)

Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol is a psychoactive isomer of delta-9 THC that occurs naturally in cannabis only in very small amounts.

Delta-8 and delta-9 THC share the same chemical formula and differ only in the position of one double bond, which makes delta-8 somewhat less potent but still intoxicating. Because the plant makes so little of it, nearly all delta-8 sold commercially is manufactured by chemically converting hemp-derived CBD, a process that can leave behind by-products and reagents if not done carefully. The FDA has warned consumers about delta-8 products and has received adverse-event reports involving them.

Delta-8 is not CBD and should not be confused with it, even when a product is labeled hemp-derived. Its legal status varies by state, and it is not part of a conventional CBD product's cannabinoid profile. Delta-8 products have been linked to accidental exposures in children and animals; the FDA and veterinary organizations advise keeping any THC-containing product away from pets.
