What the Science Says About CBD & Anxiety: Why Research (and Education – Blue Sky Ventures Skip to content

At Blue Sky CBD, we believe one thing above all else: people deserve clear, accurate information about how CBD works in the body—especially as research continues to evolve.

A recently published open-label clinical trial in The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry explored the use of cannabidiol (CBD) in young people with treatment-resistant anxiety disorders—individuals who had not responded to conventional approaches like therapy or antidepressant medication. While the study was exploratory and calls for further research, it adds to a growing body of scientific interest in how CBD may interact with the body’s internal systems.

A quick look at the study

Researchers followed 31 participants ages 12–25 over a 12-week period, examining changes in anxiety severity, mood, and daily functioning while participants received CBD alongside their existing care. The study observed statistically significant improvements in anxiety severity scores and functioning, with no serious or unexpected adverse events reported.

Why studies like this matter

CBD does not act like traditional pharmaceuticals. Instead, research suggests it interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS)—a regulatory system involved in maintaining balance across processes like stress response, sleep cycles, and mood regulation. Understanding how this interaction works is key to using CBD responsibly and thoughtfully.

This is why education is central to everything we do at Blue Sky CBD.

The takeaway

Research into CBD is growing, nuanced, and ongoing. Studies like this one help expand the scientific conversation—but they also reinforce why education, transparency, and realistic expectations matter more than headlines.
