Cannabidivarinic acid (CBDVA)

Cannabidivarinic acid, or CBDVA, is the acidic precursor to cannabidivarin, produced naturally in some hemp chemovars.

Just as CBD begins life as CBDA, CBDV begins as CBDVA. The plant assembles it from a shorter-chain version of cannabigerolic acid, and heat, light, or time convert it to CBDV by removing a carboxyl group. Because the propyl cannabinoids are minor in most hemp, CBDVA usually shows up only in trace amounts, if at all.

Readers encounter CBDVA almost exclusively on extended-panel certificates of analysis, where it is listed separately from CBDV. There is very little research on CBDVA itself, and it is best treated as a chemistry and reference term rather than something with established activity. It is distinct from CBDA, the precursor to CBD, despite the similar abbreviation, and it has no particular relevance to pet products beyond appearing in a detailed profile.
