CBD isolate

CBD isolate is a highly purified form of cannabidiol, usually a white crystalline powder, with nearly all other plant constituents removed.

Isolate is made by taking a hemp extract through additional refinement steps, such as winterization, distillation, and crystallization, until CBD makes up the vast majority of the material, often 99% or more. Terpenes, flavonoids, and other cannabinoids are removed in the process, which gives isolate no plant aroma or flavor. It is used as an ingredient in products where a precise, single-compound input is wanted.

Isolate is often assumed to contain 0.0% THC, but purity is established by testing, not by the word itself; a certificate of analysis is what confirms the THC result for a specific batch. Some readers prefer isolate to avoid THC entirely, while others prefer whole-plant extracts on the theory that multiple compounds act together, a hypothesis that remains unproven in clinical research. Isolate-based products are also sold for pets.
