Cannabigerol (CBG)
CBGCannabigerol, or CBG, is a non-intoxicating minor phytocannabinoid formed from cannabigerolic acid, the shared precursor of most cannabinoids.
CBG is sometimes called the parent cannabinoid because its acidic form, CBGA, is the compound the plant converts into CBDA, THCA, and CBCA. In most hemp, nearly all of the CBGA is used up this way, leaving only small amounts of CBG at harvest; some varieties have been bred to retain more. It appears on certificates of analysis as a separate line, often alongside CBD.
CBG does not cause a high, and laboratory work suggests it interacts with several receptor types beyond the classic cannabinoid receptors. It has been studied mainly in cell and animal models, and human clinical evidence remains limited, with no approved medical use. CBG is often combined with CBD in hemp products for people and pets, but results for the combination should not be assumed from research on either compound alone.
