Label claim

A label claim is the stated amount or characteristic printed on product packaging, such as the milligrams of CBD per container or per serving.

Claims of this kind are factual assertions that a laboratory can check, distinct from marketing statements about what a product does. For cannabinoid products the central claims are total CBD content, THC content and, where used, the amounts of minor cannabinoids. Regulators have repeatedly found products on the market whose measured content differed substantially from the label.

Reading a certificate of analysis against the label is the way to test the claim: the potency section should show a measured total close to the labeled figure for the same batch, allowing for reasonable analytical variation. A product that tests well above its label may reflect a deliberate overage; one that tests well below suggests a formulation or stability problem. Neither a label nor a certificate says anything about what the product will do for a person or animal; both describe content only.
