Batch number

A batch number is the identifier printed on a product that connects one specific production lot to its manufacturing and laboratory records.

It is usually found near the best-by date on the label, box or base of the container, and the same code should appear on the certificate of analysis for that lot. Matching the two is the only way to confirm that published test results describe the product actually purchased. Retailers that publish batch-level certificates typically let a reader search or select by this number.

A batch number does not by itself say anything about quality; it is a pointer, not a result. What matters is whether a certificate exists for that number, whether it is current, and whether its potency and contaminant sections are complete. A certificate that carries no batch number, or one whose number cannot be found on any product, is the most common gap a careful reader encounters.
